Title
Consideration to Accept Meadows Park Name.
Body
Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council approves the Resolution Officially Naming “Meadows Park.”
Summary Report:
The City acquired property for Meadows Park through a tax forfeiture process of Fargaze Meadows Development. The park went through a master planning process, and adopted the plan in 2015. The master planning process essentially used part of the development name of Meadows Park for the planning process; however, the park has never officially received a name.
Staff proposed guidelines and the process to name the park commonly referred to as “Meadows Park.” The Northfield City Council approved this Park naming process on May 2, 2017. Attached is the approved motion for naming Meadows Park as well as the staff background memorandum.
Staff created an online poll through the City’s website where residents, community leaders, businesses, and organizations proposed park names. In addition to online polling, staff provided ballot boxes at the Senior Center and Library where names could be entered. Students at the local schools were also engaged to participate in naming the park. Attached is a list of names that came from this process.
This list of names was reviewed at the Park and Recreation Advisory Board meeting on September 21, 2017 and it was recommended that the park be officially named “Meadows Park.” The Park Board felt the Meadows Park name was descriptive and notable for the area.
