TEST/TRAININGMEETING - Consider approval of Tobacco License Renewals.

BODY

Action Requested:

The Northfield City Council approves tobacco licenses as shown on Attachment 1, subject to successful completion of all background checks and receipt of all final documents.

Summary Report:

The City received 13 applications for tobacco license renewals as shown on the attached list.   Licenses are valid until December 31.  The Police Department is conducting background checks and location reviews.  Licenses will be issued upon successful completion of all checks and receipt of any outstanding documents.

Two compliance checks are done annually for each license holder by the police department. In 2024 they were completed in May and October with all establishments passing.  In 2023, Ziggy’s and Speedway each failed one compliance check.  These have since been through the court system and will come to Council in 2025 for approval of Violation Agreements and fines.  In 2024, the State of Minnesota seized ‘contraband’ tobacco products from Casey’s which is also a violation of City Code.  This Violation Agreement will also come to City Council in 2025.

Staff recommends approval of the licenses.
