The Board receives an overview Sustainable Libraries Initiative (SLI) Certification process.

 

Summary Report:

Northfield Public Library has enrolled in the Sustainable Libraries Initiative (SLI) certification program, a national framework that helps libraries integrate environmental stewardship, social equity, economic resilience, and organizational sustainability into library operations and services.

As part of the certification process, the library is required to provide introductory education to both staff and the Library Board regarding the goals, structure, and benefits of the program.

 

The attached presentation provides a brief overview of:

                     The Sustainable Libraries Initiative certification framework

                     Major certification categories and expectations

                     Anticipated implementation steps and timeline

                     Potential organizational and community benefits

                     The role of the Library Board in supporting certification efforts

 

The certification process is intended to help libraries strengthen long-term resilience, improve operational sustainability, support community wellbeing, and align institutional practices with evolving community needs and values.

 

Participation in the SLI program may also support future grant competitiveness and provide access to national peer-learning networks and sustainability best practices.
