Title

Discussion Regarding Hospital Property near Way Park

Body

Action Requested:

Board discussion regarding interest in exploring the City purchasing the property near Way Park from the hospital to use as parkland and a subsequent motion of recommendation.

Summary Report:

716 2nd St W and 706 2nd St W are two parcels currently owned by the Northfield Hospital (see attachment Way Park Expansion.pdf). The hospital is considering the sale of these parcels, so the City is contemplating whether to explore the potential purchase of the property to use as additional park space.

Minimal exploration has been done thus far; staff are just looking to gauge the Board’s interest in exploring the purchase further. If the Board is interested, staff would work with the hospital to explore the purchase in more detail and return to the Board with more specific information. The latest determined value of the property was $325,000.

Staff reached out to the Friends of Way Park group who indicated they did not have an interest in expanding the park into that space.

Staff are requesting a motion to “explore the purchase of the property” or “not explore the purchase of the property” as it relates to 716 2nd St W and 706 2nd St W.
