Action Requested:
The Environmental Quality Commission is asked to approve a motion to send the attached resolution proclaiming April 25, 2026 as Earth Day in Northfield to the City Council for consideration.
Summary Report:
The City of Northfield’s Earth Day aims to inspire awareness of, and appreciation for, the Earth’s environment. It is currently observed in more than 140 countries around the world. Earth Day, founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson, was first organized in 1970 to promote ecology and respect for life on the planet as well as to encourage awareness of the growing problems of air, water, and soil pollution.
Northfield will celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 25, 2026. The Environmental Quality Commission will have members at the annual Northfield Earth Day Celebration being held at Armory Square Event Center in Northfield.

The City sponsors the Earth Day Celebration. $500 has been budgeted in the Carbon Reduction Fund for the event.
