Title

Consider Resolution Restricting Parking on Spring Creek Road from Jefferson Parkway to Woodley Street.

Body

Action Requested:

The Northfield City Council approves the Resolution establishing a parking prohibition on Spring Creek Road from Jefferson Parkway to Woodley Street.

Summary Report:

The City of Northfield is in the final design of the Spring Creek Road Reconstruction and MTST Project and will be utilizing State Aid funding to construct the project. Due to the proposed design, which includes a rural section with 11’ drive lanes and 6’ paved shoulders, parking is not geometrically feasible along the corridor, with the exception of the east side of Spring Creek Road from Sumac Lane to Woodley Street  (Attachment 2).  Therefore, MnDOT has required that the Municipality pass a Resolution establishing a no parking area that has been created because of the proposed design.

Although the reconstruction project only includes Spring Creek Road from Huron Court to Woodley Street, this Resolution (Attachment 1) proposes no parking all the way to Jefferson Parkway, which is the fully designated State-Aid Route.

Alternative Options:

Staff does not recommend any other alternatives at this time.

Financial Impacts:

The costs will be covered as part of the State-Aid reimbursable costs.

Tentative Timelines:

The signage will be installed as part of the reconstruction project proposed for the 2026 construction season.
