The Northfield City Council considers the attached Resolution Accepting Bids and Awarding the Contract for the Water Tower Maintenance Project (WATR2019-J21).
Summary Report:
The City Council is being asked to accept the bids and award the contract for the Water Tower Maintenance Project (WATR2019-J21).
Bolton and Menk, Inc. has prepared plans and specifications for completing a three-year water tower maintenance project. The City will be completing maintenance on the three water towers the City owns. The towers are scheduled for maintenance as follows: Hall Avenue Elevated Tower in 2019, St. Olaf South Ground Storage Tank in 2020 and St. Olaf North Ground Storage Tank in 2021. The specifications allow for the contractor to bid the Hall Avenue Elevated Tower for either 2019 or 2020. Additionally, the contractor has provided a deduct price for completing both the St. Olaf Ground Storage Tanks in 2020.
Major items of work being completed on the water storage tanks include:
- Interior Tank Rehabilitation including spot repair and a protective coating system
- Exterior Tank Rehabilitation including overcoat protective system
- New City logos/lettering on exterior of tanks
- New safety climb systems
- Repair of concrete foundation
- New pressure manway gaskets
- New concrete splash pad
The City received six responsive, competitive bids, which were publicly opened and tabulated on July 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. The lowest responsive bidder is Champion Tank Services LLC with a total bid of $634,400.00 for the three towers. The bidder was under the engineer's estimate of $881,127.00.
Bolton and Menk, Inc. reviewed the bids and staff recommends approval of the lowest bid.
