Title

Draft EQC Advisory Memo regarding Urban Forest Management

Body

Action Requested:

Commissioners are asked to review and provide feedback

Summary Report:

As part of Initiative #3 on the 2025 EQC Work Plan, Commissioners Daniel Jones, Susannah Shmurak, and George Kinney have been meeting as a subcommittee to review and provide feedback for updates to the City’s 2014 Urban Forest Asset Management Plan. The subcommittee has suggested several revisions and is recommending that the plan be incorporated into the Land Development Code to strengthen how the City manages and protects its urban forest resources.

The subcommittee is now bringing their draft updates to the full Commission for review and feedback. An advisory memo summarizing the recommendations will also be shared with City staff, which will include the City Streets and Parks Manager, Horticulturist, and Planner to gather additional feedback.

Once feedback from both the Commission and staff have been received and incorporated, the subcommittee will bring the updated plan and a final advisory memo back to the Commission in December for a formal motion. If approved by a majority vote, the advisory memo will then be sent to the City Council on behalf of the full Commission.
