Title
Library Board appoints SELCO Board Representative.
Body
Action Requested:
The Library Board appoints a representative to the SELCO Board.
Summary Report:
Where feasible, the Board shall elect one person to represent the Board at meetings of SELCO (Southeastern Libraries Cooperating). If that person is not a member of the Library Board, the Board shall invite that person to attend all Board meetings as an "ex-officio" member of the Board. The Board chair may also invite other persons, such as a representative of the Friends and Foundation of the Northfield Library and a member of the Northfield City Council, to attend Board meetings as "ex-officio" members of the Board. Such "ex-officio" Board members shall receive notice of meetings in the same manner as regular members of the Board but shall not have a vote.
The SELCO/SELS Board consists of appointees from the region's citizens. The Board is responsible for fiscal oversight and setting regional library policy. SELCO was established in 1971 as a not-for-profit corporation and operates as a regional public library system as identified in Minnesota Statutes. As a federation of public libraries and counties, each public library member appoints an individual to serve on the Board. County members have the option of appointing an existing Board member from among the county residents or appointing an additional trustee to represent their interests at the regional level.
Commissioner Anna Runestad, member of the Library Board, has volunteered to serve in this role, previously held by Sherry Mooney. The Library Board will need to pass a motion to appoint Commissioner Runestad to the SELCO Board of Directors.
