Consider Ice Rental Agreement with Northfield Public Schools.

Action Requested:                     

The City Council is asked to approve a motion approving an ice rental agreement with the Northfield Public Schools.

 

Summary Report:

The City of Northfield, City of Dundas, Northfield School District, and Northfield Hockey Association have partnered in funding the construction of the New Ice Arena to serve the Community.  As part of the agreement the Northfield School District will contribute up to $250,000 annually for 20 years towards the building, including ice time. 

 

As part of the agreement (attachment #1), the School District is entitled to at least 300 hours of ice time per hockey season.  The schedule and rates, as set forth in Addendum A and Addendum B respectively, will be negotiated annually between the City and School District. 

 

The School Board approved this agreement at their June 8, 2026 meeting.

Financial Impacts:                     

The School District will contribute up to $250,000 annually as agreed upon.  This will include $200,000 plus ice time fees.  Ice fees are expected to be changing over time but would be annually determined and negotiated.

 

Tentative Timelines:                     

The agreement will go into effect as soon as signed.  The New Ice Arena is expected to open in August 2026.
