Body

Action Requested:

The Northfield City Council accepts the 2015 Recycling Rebate Check from Dick’s Sanitation Inc. for participating in the Recycling Reward Program.

Summary Report:

As part of the Residential Garbage and Refuse hauling agreement with Dick’s Sanitation Inc. (DSI), the City receives reimbursement for participating in the DSI Recycle Bank program.  DSI shares in the recycling reimbursement values received from the Rice County Recycling Facility.  The amount of the rebate is dependent upon commodity values at the time the materials are recycled.

In 2015, the City recycled 1% more materials than 2014, with a total of 1,237 tons of materials which resulted in a reimbursement amount of $16,081.  In 2014, 1,221 tons were recycled and the City was reimbursed for $15,873.

Along with the recycling rebate, DSI donated 70 bare root trees and provided the 2016 $500 Northfield Scholarship to Kathryn Wilke.  The scholarship is provided for a student pursuing environmental sciences.

Jeff Weast, DSI Director of Sales and Marketing, will be attending the meeting to present the check to City Council.
