City Council Meeting Date: October 6, 2026
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Ben Martig, City Administrator
Title
Consider Approval of Amended 1.03 Recognition Policy.
Body
Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council is asked to approve a resolution approving the amended 1.03 Recognition Policy.
Summary Report:
Council is asked to approve updates to 1.03 Recognition Policy, a Council policy that outlines processes for recognizing professional and dedicated service through the City. The policy specifically outlines appreciation programs and the process for acknowledging current board and commission members, current and former members of Council and former City Administrators in the event of a death.
A section has been added for outlining the process for recognizing outgoing City Council members. In past year, that recognition has been done at the annual end of year holiday social. However, that event was done away with in 2026. Therefore, in consultation with the Mayor, staff is proposing an updated process going forward. That process will include a presentation at the last Council meeting of the year and a 30-minute open house prior to the meeting. Details are outlined in the attached redline policy (attachment 2). The existing policy is also attached (attachment 3).
Other minor updates to the policy have also been made to better clarify the policy.
A more detailed policy regarding employee recognition is covered in the City’s Employee Handbook.
