Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council approves the attached Resolution rescinding of Motion 2018-039 Electric Easement with Northern States Power Company.
Summary Report:
City staff was approached by a representative from Xcel Energy in 2017 with a request for an electric easement from the City of Northfield for electrical distribution improvements. The proposed electric easement would be immediately adjacent to an existing Xcel gas easement, near the City Street Maintenance Facility that cuts through to Sechler Park.
On April 17, 2018 City Council approved Motion 2018-039 authorizing a new electric easement with Northern States Power on City land. Prior to fully executing the easement it was discovered that the City Land where the easement was proposed was acquired with DNR grant funds. The grant agreement does not allow for addition encumbrances such as new overhead power lines.
Upon that discovery, Xcel found a new route for the feeder line and the easement is no longer needed.
