To: Library Board Members
From: Natalie Draper, Library Director
Title
Library Board appoints SELCO Board Representative.
Body
Action Requested:
The Library Board appoints a representative to the SELCO Board.
Summary Report:
Where feasible, the Board shall elect one person to represent the Board at meetings of SELCO (Southeastern Libraries Cooperating). If that person is not a member of the Library Board, the Board shall invite that person to attend all Board meetings as an “ex-officio” member of the Board.
The SELCO/SELS Board consists of appointees from the region’s citizens. The Board is responsible for fiscal oversight and setting regional library policy. SELCO was established in 1971 as a not-for-profit corporation and operates as a regional public library system as identified in Minnesota Statutes. As a federation of public libraries and counties, each public library member appoints an individual to serve on the Board. County members have the option of appointing an existing Board member from among the county residents or appointing an additional trustee to represent their interests at the regional level.
Sherry Mooney, the current SELCO representative, is stepping down after the August SELCO board meeting and a new representative will need to be appointed to serve in her place.
Action Requested:
1. Nominations will be taken from the Board for the SELCO Representative
2. The Board will vote on said representative
3. A motion will be made and passed
