Presentation regarding Zero Waste Plan.

Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council receives a presentation regarding the draft Zero Waste Plan.
Summary Report:
Materials & Waste was one of the six work groups when developing the Climate Action Plan. Volunteers from this group have continued to meet and look for ways they can support waste reduction efforts in Northfield. One of the 3-year targets in the Climate Action Plan is to create a Zero Waste Plan. During the summer of 2020, a Carleton student along with volunteers from the Materials & Waste group worked on developing this draft Zero Waste Plan.
The Environmental Quality Commission (EQC) reviewed the draft in May 2021 and adopted a motion of support for this version of the plan on June 16, 2021.
The Council will be provided with a short summary of what is in the plan during this presentation. A copy of the draft plan is provided in the packet.

Financial Impacts:
Some elements of the plan will require financial support from the City. The Garbage Fund in Public Works will be used for some of the actions as appropriate. All items will be included in future budgets and will be dependent on the capacity of those budgets.

Council adopts plan at upcoming meeting, date to be determined.
