Body

Action Requested:

The Northfield City Council approves 2026-2030 Residential Waste Hauling Contract with Dicks Sanitation Inc.

Summary Report:

The City has Single Hauler residential Waste/Recycling hauling contract with Dicks Sanitation Inc. (DSI). The contract has been in place for the last 12 years, and the contract expires at the end of 2025. The City recently sought proposals from haulers for a new five-year contract from 2026-2030.

The City received four proposals from haulers listed below, along with pricing for services.

                     ▪ Dicks Sanitation Inc. (DSI)

                     ▪ Lakeshore Recycling Systems, LLC. (LRS)

                     ▪ Buckingham Companies

                     ▪ West Central Sanitation.

Staff reviewed the proposals (Attachment 1) along with their pricing, and two haulers (DSI and LRS) had very close pricing for hauling. By seeking proposal, the City will see a reduction in the hauling costs by 21%. Staff is recommending Council approve the contract with DSI (Attachment 2). Within DSI proposal, there were value add items beyond pricing that DSI will offer and those are listed below.

                     ▪ Recycling Education Trail at Events

                     ▪ In-person Recycling trainings

                     ▪ Supporting community events

▪ Community Recycling/Carboard Collection - Splitting funds to Northfield youth groups

▪ Natural gas trucks - reducing carbon emissions

Alternative Options:

None - staff recommends approval of the contract.
