The Northfield City Council approves the attached Resolution formally accepting the donation from the Helmsley Charitable Trust and approving donation to Northfield Area Fire and Rescue Service.
Summary Report:
The City Council is being asked to accept the donation from the Helmsley Charitable Trust and approving donation to Northfield Area Fire and Rescue Service.
The City of Northfield received a donation from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust to the Center for Resuscitation Medicine (CRM) at the University of Minnesota that will provide law enforcement with automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) to improve cardiac arrest survival. This opportunity provides equipment (Stryker CR2 AEDs), and replacement pads if used. This is an 8 year grant to provide equipment and support through the University of Minnesota CRM.
This grant allowed for new AED's in each Northfield police patrol vehicle. These new AEDs are state of the art and feature the ability to read heart rhythm through active CPR allowing officers to immediately begin CPR and continue while the AED analyzes the medical victims heart rate for a shockable rhythm. The units also offer WiFi upload of data to the University of Minnesota CRM.
Police Chief Mark Elliott attended the University of Minnesota program training and the AED's were delivered late summer. All have been deployed in the police patrol squads and are in use. This 8 year grant will save the city money through extended AED service life and pad replacement costs.
