Consider Approval of Xcel Energy Partners in Energy Memorandum of Understanding for Phase 2 Implementation 18-month Energy Jump Start.

Action Requested:                     

The Northfield City Council considers a Motion approving the attached Memorandum of Understanding with Northern States Power Company dba Xcel Energy for assistance in the Partners in Energy Program and authorizes the Mayor and City Clerk to sign the memorandum.

 

Summary Report:

On October 16 2018, the City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the City and Xcel Energy’s Partners in Energy (PiE) Program for the City to participate in Phase 1 - Plan Development.  The Energy Task Force, a subcommittee of the Climate Action Plan, has been working on this effort and the Energy Subcommittee Report is complete and was shared with Council on July 16, 2019.  It is to be incorporated into the City’s Climate Action Plan which is still in development.  The request being presented now is for Council to approve the Memorandum of Understanding to participate in the PiE program to begin to implement the actions in the 18-month Energy Jump Start with support from Xcel Energy.

None

 

Financial Impacts:                     

City staff time will be used to work on strategies.  The 2020 Budget will have requests for approximately $15,250 to support this work, approximately $9,000 of which is for a professional services contract with Healthy Community Initiative/Growing Up Healthy to carry out a portion of the work.  Xcel Energy will reimburse the City up to $3,450 for marketing materials, supplies, refreshments for events, etc. as noted in the Memorandum of Understanding.
