From: Ben Martig, City Administrator
Title
Consider Board and Commission Member Term Adjustments.
Body
Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council is asked to approve a motion to adjust board and commission term end dates to align with the new appointment timeline.
Summary Report:
At the September 23, 2025 meeting, the Northfield City Council approved the second reading of Ordinance 1081 Amending City Code Chapter 2, Related to City Boards and Commissions. As part of this ordinance, the board and commission appointment process was shifted.
Currently, member terms are slated to end on December 31st of the respective year, which is dependent on term length and year appointed. With the new timeline, terms will now end on April 30th.
This change will apply to members of the Economic Development Authority (EDA), Environmental Quality Commission (EQC), Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC), Hospital Board, Human Rights Commission (HRC), Library Board, and Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals (PC).
Board and commission members impacted by the change have been notified via email. Please note, this does not apply to youth members. Their terms, however, will be adjusted slightly to align with the new appointment timeline.
The Charter Commission, Northfield Fire and Rescue Services (NAFRS), and other partner boards, commissions, or committees will remain on a schedule with terms ending on December 31st.
A list of members and their updated term end date is attached (attachment 1), as is a link to Ordinance 1081 (attachment 2).
Alternative Options:
Council can choose not to approve the motion but staff does not recommend this since it would not align with the updated appointment timeline previously approved by Council.

Tentative Timelines:
