Title

Percent for the Arts Funding Match for Mural.

Body

Action Requested:

The ACC considers approval of a Percent for the Arts fund match for a mural.

Summary Report:

The 2023 Reclaim and Overlay project generated $47,000 dollars for public art. While it is not a requirement, all or part of those funds could be spent in the vicinity of that project. The Northfield Public Library has opened a satellite location in the Northfield Community Resource Center and is working on securing funds for a mural for the space to match funds that were raised by the Friends of the Library through a yearlong capital campaign to complete the project. The Library has applied for a grant for $5K from SEMAC as well and we are awaiting their decision. The Library is requesting a $5k match from the Percent for the Arts fund since the mural will adorn a heavily used public space on the southwest side of town, near where the street project funds were generated.

The artist, Paula Rojas, has been identified already as SEMAC requires this information in order to apply for grant funds. The subject of the mural will be a colorful depiction of rural landscapes of Central and South America. Pictures of the Library Oasis at the NCRC (Northfield Community Resource Center) are attached for reference.

Alternative Options:

The ACC could opt to not approve the funds.

$5,000
