The Northfield City Council will receive a presentation from the Earth Day Steering Committee.
Summary Report:
The City of Northfield’s Earth Day is intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the environment. Observed in more than 140 countries, Earth Day was founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970 to promote ecology, respect for life, and awareness of growing environmental challenges, including air, water, and soil pollution.
Northfield will celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 25, 2026. The Environmental Quality Commission will participate in the annual Northfield Earth Day Celebration at Armory Square.
Sarah Fortner, a member of the Earth Day Planning and Steering Committee, will provide remarks and an overview of this year’s Earth Day activities, highlighting opportunities for community members to attend and participate.
A resolution proclaiming April 25, 2026, as Earth Day in Northfield will be included as a separate item on the consent agenda.

Financial Impacts:
The City sponsors the Earth Day Celebration. $500 has been budgeted in the Carbon Reduction Fund for the event.
