Consider Resolution Approving Donation to MNSCU Riverland Community College.

Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council approves the attached Resolution formally approving donation to MNSCU Riverland Community College in 2025.

Summary Report:
The City Council is being asked to approve donation to MNSCU Riverland Community College in 2025.

Minnesota Statute 471.85.01 states "any county, city, town or school district may transfer its personal property for a nominal or without consideration to another public corporation for public use when duly authorized by its governing body".

The City of Northfield donates a retired 2001 Ford command vehicle to MNSCU Riverland Community College. The command vehicle supports the MNSCU Northfield Community College Collaborative (NCCC) and the partnership between the NCCC and Riverland Community College in providing law enforcement classes in Northfield with the goal of the program to bring opportunities for traditionally underrepresented classes of candidates into the policing profession. The NCCC program specifically targets people of color and female students to join the program. In this case the command vehicle provides a platform for educational training on law enforcement work.

Alternative Options:
A. Do not donate and instead direct staff to proceed with disposal through sale or scrap for the equipment. Staff would evaluate a bidding service or scrap metal depending on what the estimated value would be.

To do this, any member of the Councilor may request to be removed from the consent agenda for separate discussion at the approval of the agenda (or notify the City Administrator, City Clerk, and Mayor in advance with intent).
