Summary Report:
At the May 16, 2026 meeting, Commissioner Gernon proposed that the Charter Commission review the City Charter to reexamine its purpose, to determine if it’s meeting the needs of the community, and to ensure the processes contained in the City Charter are transparent and accessible. The Charter Commission held on discussion on the topic at their July 9, 2026 meeting
A copy of the City Charter and link to the City Charter (attachments 1 and 2), a link to the May 16, 2026 Charter Commission discussion on this proposal (attachment 3), a link to the July 9, 2026 Charter Commission discussion and a list of other Minnesota Charter Cities (attachment 5) are included for reference and assistance with the discussion.
Chair Linstroth will outline that proposed process for the discussion at the meeting.
