Body
Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council approves the attached Resolution of support for Waterford Township grant application for Phase 2 restoration of the Waterford Bridge related to Mill Towns State Trail.
Summary Report:
In December of 2019 Waterford Township was awarded $342,818 for phase 1 restoration of the Waterford Bridge. COVID delayed Phase 1 until March of 2021 at which times bids came in high, however, the township was able to secure the additional financing from partners to complete phase 1 by the end of 2021. The City of Northfield provided a support resolution 2021-050 for Phase 1.
Waterford Township is applying for Phase 2 restoration work on the bridge from the Minnesota Historical Society/Clean Water Land & Legacy Amendment. This work will include truss strengthening and deck removal. The proposed grant application is for $265,245.
The City of Northfield is currently developing plans for this segment of Mill Towns State Trail in collaboration with the MnDNR. The restoration of Waterford Bridge is an important crossing of the Cannon River for the Mill Towns State Trail.
Staff is recommending the attached resolution of support for Phase 2 restoration, with long term regional goal of the complete construction of Mill Towns State Trail.
