Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council will receive the quarterly report from the Police Chief on public safety activity in Northfield during the first quarter of 2026.
Summary Report:
The Police Chief will present the quarterly report for Quarter 1, 2026, which covers the time period of January 1, 2026 to March 31, 2026. The attachments included in this item show the calls for service in Group A crimes (more serious) and Group B crimes (less serious) as classified by the FBI NIBRS crime index.
National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS). National Incident-Based Reporting System is an incident-based reporting system used by law enforcement agencies in the United States for collecting and reporting data on crimes. Local, state and federal agencies generate NIBRS data from their records management systems and report this information to the FBI.
The intent of this report is to give a quarterly update to the City Council on public safety statistics and information as well as news of events and happenings involving your police department. A brief presentation will be given along with a copy of the presentation in the council agenda materials.
This information will assist the Police Department in meeting the goals of transparency in the work the officers do and the types of calls for service that occur in the city. The Police Chief strongly believes an informed community is a safer community and this information allows for community members to make informed decisions on their personal safety.
