Action Requested:                     

The Northfield City Council Approves Resolution for Minnesota Employment and Economic Development Application for Phase II of the Northfield Skateboard Park Project.

 

Summary Report:

In 2024, the MN State legislature included funding for planning and construction of skate parks through the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). The City of Northfield was included in the legislation for the construction of the skate park Phase II in Memorial Park.

 

Staff have prepared the application and are coordinating with DEED on receiving the grant funds. The attached application and Resolution (Attachments 1 & 2) is the next step in the process to securing the funding. Once the application and local support resolution is approved, the grant agreement with the state will be the next step. From there, staff will begin working with designers and community on the design of the next phase.

Financial Impacts:                     

$500,000 Grant from MN DEED

Local Costs projected to be under 10% or $50,000 that would be paid through the Capital Park Fund.
