Summary Report:
Finance Director Angelstad and City Administrator Martig have developed an initial budget calendar for 2026-2027. City Administrator Martig will summarize the process at the meeting.
Some administrative goals for the new budget process from the Finance Director and City Administrator are as follows:
A. New Initial Meeting in May with focus on 2026 Initial Budget Developed from 2025 process, 2026-2029 CEP/CIP Approved from December 2025, and 5-Year Financial Model from 2025. The intent would be to share that information for any feedback while staff begins reviewing proposed budgets for 2026-2027.
B. Added Public Engagement in June for Process and Initial 2026 Budget/5-year Financial Model/CIP/CEP from 2025 development. Details on engagement also include options to be determined such as presentations, town hall meetings, city communications, etc.
C. Improvement of Integration of 5-year financial model including operations, debt initiated in 2024 and 2025.
D. Added Public Engagement in September for Proposed Budget 2026-2027, 5-Year CIP/CEP. Details on engagement also include options to be determined such as presentations, town hall meetings, city communications, etc. for feedback on budget to inform Council of any potential adjustments in December for adopting the final budget.
E. Added Communications with County, School Information in November for information on the final proposed budget.
There will be much more details on types of information that will be available and opportunity for identifying specific information that may be of interest in the budget process. Staff would welcome input on added goals, specific research or timeline feedback that could be helpful for staff as we prepare for the new budget process.
