Community Climate Leaders Program Coming to Northfield- Spring 2026

The City of Northfield is excited to partner with Carleton College and the University of Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership to bring the Community Climate Leaders Program to our community in Spring 2026! This program equips participants with practical climate knowledge, strategies for local action, and a network of peers committed to making a difference.

The City will support Northfield residents by covering the registration costs through funds made available from the Carbon Reduction Fund, contributing a total of $3,000 to the program. More information about enrollment and the course curriculum will be shared in January 2026.

Program Overview:

o                     Eight-week program combining online learning and in-person sessions

o                     Online modules cover climate science, local climate impacts, accessible actions, community engagement, climate justice, and leadership skills

o                     In-person sessions include group discussions, climate communication exercises, and planning local climate actions

o                     Participants receive a copy of The Climate Action Handbook by Dr. Heidi Roop, a climate action notebook, and other activity materials

o                     After completion, participants can connect with fellow Community Climate Leaders statewide and access additional learning opportunities

The impacts of climate change are already here and expected to intensify. This program is a unique opportunity to turn concern into action and make a tangible difference in our community.
