Title

Consider Resolution approving the Police Department selection of the Brazos citation software

Body

Action Requested:

The Northfield City Council is being asked to approve the attached Resolution approving the Police Department’s selection of the Brazos Citation Software Solution in cooperation with the Local Government Information System (LOGIS) Association.

Summary Report:

The Northfield Police Department, through a Joint Powers Agreement with Rice/Steele 911 Center, utilizes the Local Government Information System (LOGIS) Association to provide software solutions for officers. These solutions include CAD (squad car) software, Records Management System, e-citation software, and 24/7/365 tech support for public safety. LOGIS bills Rice/Steele 911 Center for their services, and each department within Rice and Steele counties reimburses Rice/Steele 911 Center for licensing and associated fees. These fees are factored into the department's budget on an annual basis.

Recently, the LOGIS Police Executive Steering Committee voted to move forward with a new e-citation vendor after reviewing a number of proposals. The selected vendor is Brazos, an industry leader in e-citation software. Because of the change, LOGIS is requiring each member agency in the LOGIS consortium (19 agencies throughout the Twin Cities metro and southern MN) to approve a resolution of support through their elected council.

The Northfield Police Department is in support of this change to Brazos.

Alternative Options:

The Council could choose not to approve the resolution, which would require the Police Department to seek out alternative citation software, at the sole expense to the city.

Financial Impacts:

The City of Northfield Police Departments share of the software contract would be $6,050.  This amount, and future increases, would be covered by the department’s annual budget.
