Summary Report:

An ACC subcommittee met last week to discuss timeline, necessary components of the Public Art Plan, and how survey feedback should be incorporated into the plan.

Members of the subcommittee are: George Brophy, Paula Granquist, Martha Anderson, and Cecilia Barojas Velasquez.

Suggested components/goals of the plan are as follows:

                     Summary and introduction incorporating community input

o                     “why art in public matters”

o                     Defining what the role of public art should be

                     Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

                     Raising awareness/ Educating the public

o                     Artwork Archive

o                     Public events and dedications

                     Support for community- and artist-initiated art and placemaking

                     Notoriety

o                      Building regional, national recognition

                     Increasing capacity

o                     grants

o                     developer contributions and art in city planning

1.                     What is missing from the list of components to the plan?

2.                     Identifying opportunities for public art:

a.                     Can each commissioner commit to taking photos of 1-3 public locations, spaces, parks, buildings, sites, etc. that are opportunities for activation with public art/placemaking?

b.                     With each location, identify 1-3 attributes that make it an opportunity. What is the significance to you of the site?
