Summary Report:
Mayor Pownell met with the Board and Commission Chairs for feedback in preparation of her transition into the Mayor role. Attached is a summary of those discussion items. City Administrator Martig will be preparing a PowerPoint presentation to go through these items for discussion at the meeting. The Council may reflect on these topics in preparation of the work session.
Additionally, through the Council appointment process, Mayor Pownell indicated an intention to assign both herself and a particular Council member to specific subject areas i.e. the Age Friendly Initiative, Transportation, Environment, and Race Equity as highlighted in Table 1 below. Some of these are official appointments while others are not. Mayor Pownell further explained that this is intended to be an opportunity to increase the collaboration and communication of the Council and staff on specific subject areas that don’t have a designated person assigned to them from the Council. It also creates more of a team approach to how we lead and an opportunity to build relationships outside of regular Council business meetings. This concept is identified as a work in progress.
The Council is being asked to discuss the how, what, when, where and why of these particular areas with final input and decisions resting with the Council as a whole. City Administrator Martig will also be incorporating this discussion into the PowerPoint presentation format for discussion.
