Title

Consider Accepting Donation of Fire Suppression Tools to Police Department.

Body

Action Requested:

The Northfield City Council approves the attached resolution accepting a donation from Northfield Masonic Lodge of Fire Suppression Tools to the Northfield Police Department.

Summary Report:

The Northfield Masonic Lodge was able to fundraise enough to donate Fire Suppression Tools (FSTs) to the Northfield Police Department. These tools will be carried in the first response vehicles as a quick suppression device to attempt to knock down or put out a fire.

With how fast today’s fires spread, Fire Suppression Tools are a tool designed to “buy more time” for a fire department response thus saving property and possibly injury or death.

The Northfield Police Department recommends that Council accept the donation.  In doing so, 10 of the devices would be placed in each police patrol vehicle used to routinely patrol the community.

A presentation from the Northfield Masonic Lodge is a separate item on the presentation portion of the meeting agenda.

Financial Impacts:

The donation will cover the entire cost of the devices and cases, approximately $1,000 each ($10,000 total).
