Title

Consider PARC Recommendation for Water Treatment Plant Public Art.

Body

Action Requested:

The ACC votes on the recommendation of the PARC for the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Public Art proposal.

Summary Report:

The public art review committee (PARC) reviewed the final proposals by the 4 finalists for the Water Treatment Plant on October 1st and after careful consideration selected Ivan Depena’s proposal. His presentation is attached.

The committee appreciated the way Depena’s proposal created a space and liked how it integrated into the landscaping rather than standing up as a standalone piece. The landscape architects and Justin Wagner will meet with the artist later this week to discuss some fine tuning of the project so the final form may vary slightly from the proposal. Reservations included maintenance (a point for discussion with the artist) and visibility in the winter. We may be able to work in some vertical element (such as the mural suggested in the proposal so that the artwork isn’t obscured by snow.

Public art review committee members are: Martha Anderson, Michael Johnson, Mathias Hughey, Justin Wagner, Annika Nguyen, Risi Karim, and Xavier Tavera.
