Title

Review Interpretive Framework for Bridge Square.

Body

Action Requested:

Discussion/Information Only.

Summary Report:

Last year the 106 Group presented a draft of the attached interpretive framework and gathered ACC input for inclusion in the Bridge Square redesign. Please see the attached, updated draft framework for Bridge Square. This incorporates staff and ACC recommendations, and has incorporated Damon Farber’s Bridge Square plans from the 90% kickoff meeting to begin to plot out what interpretive elements might fit best in the identified locations.

What is the interpretive framework?

“Interpretation seeks to connect visitors to a place. It is an experience more than a sign. It is a story more than conveying facts. Interpretation answers the questions: “So what?” and “Why should I care?” and forges emotional and intellectual connections between the interests of the audience and the meanings inherent to place. The interpretive framework process for Bridge Square considers the place-specific historical, cultural, and natural features to be interpreted and the visitor needs to develop relevant messages and integrate those messages into the visitor experience.

This interpretive framework builds on the guiding principles developed with public input for the Riverfront Enhancement Action Plan and input from City of Northfield staff and the Bridge Square design team. It also takes into consideration the City of Northfield’s mission and vision.”

Staff are seeking the support of the ACC for the draft interpretive framework.
