Summary Report:
The Northfield City Council is being asked to approve a resolution recognizing the Carleton College Women’s cross country team for winning the NCAA division III national championship.
This championship is the first in school history for a women’s team and only the second title overall. The team has experienced previous success at Nationals, finishing fifth in 2017 and 2019 and fourth in 2022.
The team came into the championship at No. 2 in the USTFCCCA national rankings. They scored a total of 151 to beat out the No. 1 ranked team of NYU. Only seven points separated the top four teams, making it the closest finish in NCAA division III Women’s Cross Country Championships history.
The team will be honored by their peers for their achievement at a reception on Thursday February 1st.
